Richard Knight

November 11, 1944 — April 25, 2024

Richard Knight, 79, of Mercer, passed away UPMC Horizon-Shenango Valley on April 25, 2024. Richard was born on November 11,1944 in Abington, PA to the late Elizabeth Robinson Knight and Alexander Knight. Richard was engaged to his fianc, Sylvia Lenz, before he had passed. Richard was a member of the Church of the Epiphany in Grove City. He was known as a friendly and generous man to those around him. Richard loved being outdoors. In his younger years, Richard was an avid hunter which instilled a love and an appreciation for animals of all kinds. Richard was fascinated with birds. Walking around his property, you could find multiple bird feeders as well as bird houses that he had made himself. He would regularly feed the birds and enjoyed watching them from his dining room with Sylvia. He even built a bird house with Sylvias great-granddaughter that she was so proud of because she made it with Papa Rich. Recently, Richards love for the outdoors has turned to gardening and landscaping. When he was not perfecting his gardening skills, Richard loved to be in his garage working on his cars. You could say he was a true tinkerer when it came to the automotive industry, as he had gotten a lifetimes worth of experience doing autobody repair working at Sans Ford in Red Hill, PA. As well as cars, Richard enjoyed woodworking, making benches and shelves as well as a cherished stool that is still used. His retirement had been highlighted by his newfound love Sylvia. In recent years they have gone on cruises to Alaska and the Panama Canal, as well as wintering in Florida together. Richard is survived by his fianc, Sylvia, her children, Christine Heffern and Scott Lenz, as well as her three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Richard also leaves behind three half-siblings: Alexander Knight, David Knight, and Mary Ann Knight; his step-mother, Marie T. Knight, as well as eight nieces and nephews and 14 great-nieces and nephews and one on the way. Richard was preceded in death by his parents. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Rose Simplicity Cremation & Funeral Center, Inc. 200 S. Erie, Street, Mercer, PA 16137.
