Laurence Scott Root

Laurence "Larry" Scott Root, 68 of Oil City, passed away at his home on May 15, 2023. Larry was born in Batavia, New York on March 17, 1955, a son of the late Laurence Sanford Root and Nancy-Jo Aubert Rupp. He attended Oakfield-Alabama High School, a graduate of the class of 1972. In 1972, Larry enlisted in the United States Marine Corps, earning his E3 Lance Corporal ranking. He served in the USMC until 1976. Larry enjoyed taking care of animals and his many pets over the years. He was a Christian by faith, and a lover of nature and the countryside. Survivors left to cherish the memory of Larry are his son, Laurence Root (Amanda Spicer) and their daughter, of New Hampshire; sister, Jennifer Lyn Root of East Pembroke, NY; special friend Pam Kopf of Oil City; and several beloved cousins, nieces, and nephews. Loved ones preceding Larry in death are his parents; brother, Jeffrey Lee Root; brother, Randall Edward Root; sister, Joyce Audrey Root; step-father, David Rupp; and beloved dog, Smokey. To honor Larrys wishes, services will be held privately.
