James "Roach" Heister

James (Jim) "Roach" Heister, 60 of Mercer, passed away on March 13, 2023 at his home following a hard fought battle with cancer. Jim was born on October 27, 1962 in Grove City, a son of the late Albert and Sally (Akin) Heister. For several years, Jim worked in construction, and also in heating and cooling. Jim repaired cars and other machines, and especially enjoyed working on lawnmowers. A veteran of the Army National Guard, Jim relished time spent at the VFW of Mercer, and was a member of the American Legion Post 0159. In his earlier years, Jim tended to his grandparents farm and it was a favorite pastime. Additionally, he enjoyed fishing with friends and his sister & brother-in-law. Being able to spend time with his nieces and nephews, and playing with their Nerf guns, was something he had always cherished. He loved hanging out with his friends, and is fondly remembered as someone who just appreciated life. Survivors left to cherish the memory of Jim are his siblings, Cheryl Redmond of Mercer; Gloria (Brett) Petri of Virginia; Connie Robbins of Utah; Tery (Tom) Hazen of Fredonia; Al Heister of Grove City; and Kathy (Tim) Nelson of Nevada; as well as several beloved nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews. Preceding Jim in death are his parents and his grandparents. Jims family would like to honor his wishes of having cremation take place.
